SAPMA 2011 Model Expo
« on: 04 Nov , 2011, 23:54 »
29-30 October, 2011, AMP went to our first model show as a trader. The SAPMA Expo (South Australian Plastic Modellers Association - www.saplasticmodellers.com.au) in Adelaide Australia has been running several years. It's a small city and small club, but they get about 350 people through on the Sat and Sun. There is also a modelling competition with a nice range of very well-built models and dioramas. One of the winners was by a 14 year old modeller.

As noted in the Type II uboat forum post, there is a fair amount of Air and Armour, but little Maritime. There was a poor showing of Space: a little SciFi and no Real, and cars and trucks were few and far between. But the quality of models was excellent, and there was a mix of traders: many selling kits in 1:48, 1:72, and 1:35, with some 1:144 and 1:350 ships. A few traders were resin accessory specialists for air and armour.

The overall show winner and in a few other categories was a dio on Iraq. The modeller was in the Australian Defence Force over there in 2006, and he recreated a scene he saw.
He did a truly outstanding job, and would be right there with Siara in skills and scope. The photos do NOT do it justice. The most interesting thing was that it was so alive and packed with details,
there really was no true "front" - the back and sides probably had more little details than the front, though obviously not the framing/layout.
