Where do you go for pics?
« on: 16 Jun , 2011, 10:00 »
Hello all. New to the site. Got the bug to get back into modelling and decided to revive my long dormant skills with the 144:1 Revell VIIc/41.

I've decided to build the ill-fated U-297. I've found a few pics on google images with no proof that they are the actual boat. I've come up blank pretty much anywhere else I could think of.

What web-related sources could you recommend for reference pics? I realize I'm limited with the 144:1, but I'd at least like to get the hull openings/vents correct to the U-297.

Also, is oil-canning on a 144:1 doable from a sanity standpoint?

Thanks,
Os

You can use detective work and match U 297 to a sister ship more is known about, or find the yard that built her, often each yard did certain patterns. I would also try uboat.net. they are a great resource!

oil-canning in 1:144 - a bit here and there, but it might be too small scale.

Oil canning in 1/144, it can be done. I've already did it on my new project: U-94. It takes a lot of patience but it is worth it!
