Knocked-out weekend project
« on: 13 Feb , 2011, 14:10 »
Hello!

I have always been fascinated by the old rust buckets and knocked-out and burnt out projects.  I figured since I was trying something new, I didn't want to invest a lot of money on a new kit.  Friday I pulled out a shelved project from years ago.(Early attempt in modeling)  Dragon's 1/35 Ferdinand.  The rest is all that follows

Friday, 2/11/11 3:45PM

Removed some stuff and spayed with black enamel

Mixed Flat Brown a little black and a touch of flat earth (melted chocolate) Grabbed the air brush!

Next dampened the area with thinner and began stippling 3 colors of rust...dark, medium and light, in that order.

Rusting complete...

Stole some hair spray from the girls...shot it on with my air brush to keep the pigments intact.  Dampened and salted....

Using Dark Yellow to start then some light camo stripes with a mix of field green and earth and white

The faint camo...

Stippling with different pressures and a couple of different brushes, removed the salt and some of the painted over rust...

A little more hair spray and salt then I took the original "chocolate mixture and lightly highlighted some areas for smoke.  Mixed white with the left over dark yellow and sprayed through a green kitchen scrubby pad for the whitening burnt effect...repeated the stippling brush attack

A little wash and done....for now.

Fairly pleased with my first attempt at  "killing the beast", I will mount it on a small base, probably add some grass and dirt and it will make a nice addition to my desk at work! ;D

Total time involved, minus the first build and waiting for the enamel to dry....about 3 hours! ::)  Really fun project added to the resurrection of and OLD newbie work and a small amount of time = a satisfying weekend stress reliever! ;D

Hope you enjoyed it, I did!

Cheers!

T
