Source for quad flakvierling 38?
« on: 28 Sep , 2013, 19:17 »
Can anyone refer me towards a good quality 1/72 flakvierling kit?  I bought a nautilus models flak 38 kit a while back that is totally useless, resin is full of holes.
Regards,
Brian

Hi Brian

If I'm not mistaken, the FlaKvierling  used on the U-Boots is the same as the regular army version.
As I'm totally not into AFV modelling I can't point you to a good alternative, quality wise.
What I can do is provide you with a few alternatives (I found through the extremely useful site www.scalemates.com)

What I might do in your situation is try to source a cheap plastic version of the FlaKvierling (eBay, local hobby club).

Possible options:
http://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=165072
(although with an original release date of 1978 it might be a bit rough, on the other hand, maybe someone has the FlaK sprues lying around as the Opel Blitz could be built into anything).
http://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=139205
(never heard of them and don't have a clue concerning availability)
http://www.scalemates.com/products/product.php?id=137020
(also never heard of)

If the problem is only with the barrels you might try to look for this:

Good luck with searching/sourcing for a solution. I hope my suggestions can be of help.

Thanks very much for the links and information.  I think I can use a regular Wehrmacht  version for the basic components and add a detail set designed for the Kriegsmarine version and have an acceptable quad for a u boat.  Armo makes one with turned brass barrels included so I have one on order.

Brian

I used the Flakvierling included with the Revell S-100/Flak kit #80-5002, and used two PE sets:  Eduard 53003, Griffon BPN72002.
See my build site:  http://www.travel-net.com/~gcauley/U673/
and go to page "Armament"

It turned out pretty well, I think.

Thanks Glenn for the info.  I actually have the Revell S-100 with the Flak 38 kit sitting around waiting to be built so I might rob some parts from it.

Brian
