Antennae isolators for 1:72 u-boat?
« on: 15 Sep , 2016, 12:10 »
The kit-provided "isolators" in the Revell 1:72 kits leave much to be desired.

I've seen some build stories where they used modeling clay to hand-make them.

Are there any aftermarket sources for these items?

I wonder if they could be 3D printed with sufficient resolution?

Hi Steve,

please follow the link:

This resin upgrade set for the Typeseven/41 (Revell) contains the isolators you are looking for (and many more parts).

I just made this on shapeways.  I tried alsorts of things for the isolators, nothing worked very well so I'm hoping this set will work out.

I have just ordering it, when it arrives I'll post pictures.

I look forward to your review of this.   :)
I wonder if there would be a set of individual insulators as well?  (instead of strung together)  That would be very well received, I am sure.

And not to push my luck... I wonder if a 1/144 version would be available as well?   There is NOTHING out there that is good.  :(

Hi Steve,

I'am sorry, but a few days ago when I post the link there was one set left. Maybe you can drop l'arsenal a line and ask them to cast one more set? IMO they own the moulds or know the owner/caster of this resin set.

P.S.: I have posted a deep inbox review of this set two years ago but after the board update all links are dead:

Yeh, unfortunately all of the links end up being corrupted files.  :(

I just got an email from Shapeways about a new hi-resolution resin they have.  I might model up some of these isolators and have some made to see how they do.
