Conversion of the AIRFIX RAF ASRL INTO A RN MGB

Wink,

If I email you a photo of this model ... would you post it here?  I don't know how to ...

Now, guys, ... this build was done without lengthening the kit's hull because the modeler looked at a photo of MGB-61 and looked at the kit's hull and determined that it would not be "worth the effort" to do so, and do you know what?  I agree with him.  When you look at the real MGB-61 and the finished model, you can't tell that the real boat was 70 feet and the kit depicts a 63 foot RAF ASRL ... You REALLY CAN'T ...

One error was the modeler forgot to widen the cockpit area but, other than that?  The MGB model was done well.  I LOVE it.  The 20mm gun came from WEM, the depth charges came from GREAT LITTLE SHIPS in the UK.  The two twin Vickers 0.5 inch guns and their turrets were scratch-built.  Wink made me the White Ensign for it.

The flag in the photo is wrong and it was replaced by the correct White Ensign.

Garth,

You should be very pleased with the results!  She is a beauty!  Very clean lines!  And since I no nothing of the vessel....she does appear to be 7 feet to short. :P

Great work!

Cheers!

Thank you TRM,

Ever since I saw that kit and a photo of the real MGB-61, I've held a theory that the conversion COULD BE accomplished without any major building ... this build was a "proof of concept" experiment ...

Even though a certain expert (who shall remain nameless) out there will tell you that, even though it's a  beautiful build and all that, I should have had it done as another MGB (MGB-43 I believe he said) and that it is a kit of a 63 footer and not a 70 footer, as MGB-61 was.  And, that there several differences between the upperworks of that type of MGB and the ASRL and that I was wrong for even thinking it COULD be possible.

I was brought up with "anything is possible" way of thinking.  Stand proud, it was earned! ;D

Side note:  How did you fair with the storm?  Up in MA we got about 10" and a couple of 3' drifts and nasty winds.  Around the Worcester area.  Luckly not near the cost, they got hammered.

Cheers!

Good amount!  Funny, it will probably melt away this weekend, they are calling for mid forties here.  Big, sloppy mess!

Have a safe and Happy New Year!

Cheers!

Boylston, just east of Worcester.  Work in RI and drive through Conn everyday.  Got to love New England!  Could be sunny and 75F at home, 40F and raining in RI or 65F in RI and snowing at home....45 miles in between but never the same weather! :D
