ms 9 camouflage scheme

regarding color  ??? :
an all black boat with color peeling off: what's underneath?
metal, then primer(light grey??), then top color?

I THINK that's right. Actually, I think there's extra:

steel
below waterline Red Lead
Gray
Black


The gray boats had big numbers painted on them, so I'm thinking of painting those on 9or decal) a bit thick, and THEN putting m9 black over, so that in right angle/light you can see that the number was painted over in wartime. If I do thick enough numbers it should be just visible.

I did some research on this and one of the biggest helps was the coast guard with regard to what's under what, and inside superstructure. But if anyone has better info, please speak up!
