Excellent colour VIIC photos Ebay
« on: 26 Jul , 2010, 06:32 »
Hi gents,

There are four colour VIIC photos on Ebay at present - three of them are superb. The links can be found from this post at uboat.net -

http://www.uboat.net/forums/read.php?3,82981,82981#msg-82981

One of them even shows the 7th U-F stencil being used to apply the bulls :)

I don't think the first two boats is U 46, though. The antenna conduit above the wind deflector, and the side navigation light, do not correspond with U 46. I reckon it is an early VIIC belonging to the 7th U-F but don't know the boat number.

Enjoy!

Dougie

Hi folks,

Another photo on Ebay -

http://cgi.ebay.de/Top-Foto-Album-Kriegsmarine-U-Boot-Minensucher-Lorient-/220638633504?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Militaria&hash=item335f165e20

The 157000t. and the black cat makes it almost certainly U 48. But what makes this photo so interesting is the drawing of a figure below the wind deflector. This insignia isn't in Hoegel's book and I've only seen it on one other photo of U 48. Any idea what this insignia is actually showing? It looks like a winged figure flying and holding a branch?

Cheers,

Dougie

I had a look through them all, a lot of good stuff there for all sorts - almost too many categories! (various ships, guns, clothing, culture, bottles, the sunnies on the dog...) very cool.

Hi Dougie,
The insignia is called "White witch" and was a personal insignia of Herbert Schultze.

BTW these are great pictures. I've never seen such a great close-up. Saved to the archives in the depth of my hard drive. :D
