hi ererybody,

Well after a few years waiting for to be worked on again I put my U-2511 on the workbench.
This will be a RC model,fully functional.It is a ABS hull from the Robbe firm,

Gently I make some progress on the floodholes,
in these pictures you will see it.The ''H''shape plate will be replaced by a brass one.
The ABS ''H'' shape plate will all be removed(I am not happy about it),so it will be one big sleeve.

for hours and hours,and I do have many things to do,and I have a million questions regarding this pic.But first things first.

Last week I noticed something that these ''H''shape plates do not have all the same size,
mmmmmm I think I am gonna used that on my boat,I have never seen this before on a XXI.

These floodholes of the XXI are very similair like the floodholes of the type`s IX,
here you see a picture of U-873 a type IX-D2,I was wondering if the type XXI has also this hatch,mmmmmmm this is a very intresting detail.

Well I must say it is a lot of work,but well worth,I think it is a fair presentation.

Do you have Anatomy of the Ship - The Type XXI U-boat? It show several manhole covers (both mid line & lateral; wielded & opening one), large removable panels, a few small removable panels, battery hatch etc... Most at mid line of the boat.

These are timber beams to occur that she can`t fall to the right or left side.

All this I glued with ''SNAP-A-GAP''superglue and ''ENDFEST 300 plus'',and all those materials I used are left-overs from the kit.
Oh and please don`t look at the dust what is in the boat.

Today I was not in the mood for finishing the floods,maybe tommorow.So I made I few details for the CT.
This is the periscoop housing made from scratch,I used the VOZM book for reference.

The figure is from Andrea miniatures in the 1/32 scale,and is not painted by me.

The floor of this CT is still a big mistery for me,I hope that someone has a drawing or some pix that I can use.

The last couple of weeks did not much on my baby,the workshop was closed

it was to hot to handle,well the Heineken`s taste good in these temparatures in the local pubs

Here is a small update.

These gratings were allready broken when I lifted the baby out the box(a few years ago),
this was on the left and on the right.

This bulkhead was for the original Robbe WTC(Water Tight Compartment),
my WTC will be much bigger,I will using a 125mm PVC pipe(Toneburst design

,not my idea) instead off a 105mm KU pipe(Robbe design),
I am hoping that this will increase the stability of the boat when she in the water,surface or submerged.

Removed from the aft section,

Cleaned,sanded,and maked the hole bigger,

I removed this housing,this Robbe design was for controlling the rudder.I will
use a small ''cog wheel'' with a chain.And this chain will hooked up to a servo.

The blue arrow,

This is edge was to round for my needs,it will be more sharper.

Yes me to,I am littlebit curious how she will behave in her natural enviroment

Here are some pix of the U-47,same brand and scale.This was my first RC Sub(and my last).
This was her last patrol,she went to deep and cracked some glue joints

.
Back then I build this baby straight from the box,and without any
knowledge of the real boats,and I build her without the internet,
now she is back in my shipyard waiting to be finished.

Okay I am working on the front now,this section was allready glued I wasn`t happy with the result,
so I cut it.The six torp doors/removable panels/etc etc will be made of brass.

The model has three rows of vents,the model was based on U-2540 and this boat has three rows of vents.
I am thinking of closing one row I marked with blue.
My instinct says U-2511 has two rows of vents

,because it belong to the ''early XXI`s'' $:-\$ $:-\$ $:-\$ .

The space between the vents is to wide,
I cut the sheet of four vents out of the hull.

The floods behind the front dive planes I closed,according to the VOZM book page 22.

Here is the sheet removed from the hull.

I glued some supports on the hull,and I used my fingers to hold the sheet in the correct place,and than I glued it.

Here is the sheet installed,the lower row of vents are also closed,I had to sleep over for a few
knights before I closed them.

Here is the right side of the front.The hatch you see is a ''maintenance hatch''(Robbe design),
this is for reaching the stearing of the front dive planes.
If I close this hatch I can`t reach it.

Here you see some pix from my work......what I do for a living.The scissor in front is a zinc cutter.
I will using this for cutting my torp doors.

The six(one spare) torp doors on the workbench.

This torp door is just a dry fit.

Gentlemen,

Last post on this boat, 29-11-2009. WOW time really flies

. I am sorry for this delay. Most of my free time i am working on my book regarding all commissioned U-boats.
I must admit it`s very very time consuming. For more than 7 years i have been working on my book and there is no light at the end of the tunnel for now.
Still the unknown U-boat pictures keeps rolling in, missing 367 U-boats in my archive. There are also some healthy issues in my family for the last 2 years

.

Some sanding is still required.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I followed the Bronco instructions regarding the torp doors.
Didn`t like it at all, i decided to close them. I was not able to use the launhing tubes anyway, the cylinder is just to big for them.

What i marked with my pencil is removed.

The torp doors are closed, the vents on the XXIII are almost done.

Found these some time ago. Center boat is U-2511 in Bergen, Norway.

After the German Surrender in Bergen, Norway. You can see ``2511`` on the Tower.

My hull vents on the left side are wrong when this boat was in Bergen, Norway. The right side is okay.

What`s written in black is from the VOZM book. What`s written in red it`s from me.

The 2 halves are ready, i will finish all the PE when the 2 halves are joined together, take a look.

Some of the elektronics, left is a leveller, keeps your boat horizontal at periscope depth.
Right is a speedcontroller, these two babyies are tiny

Left is a brass prop from Raboesch, Right is from the kit

Yesterday i started with the forward planes, made these solid with epoxy resin, no air bubbles inside.

The forward planes are ready, everything is made from plastic/epoxy/brass and stainless steel.

The planes can always be removed for maintenance if needed.

Started today with the Snort. Brass/brass is soldered, brass/3D printed parts are glued with ZAP, the green stuff.

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

This is how the boat looks like today.
Snort and Antenna loop finished. Bronco`s attack scope looks like sh?t. This part has to be scratchbuild.
The CT hatch can be open and closed, open when the boat is on patrol and closed when she in port.

The SBTS unit is for controlling the main ballast, i hope. If not this unit goes into my U-47.
The other unit is the reciever. The battery pack is underneath these 2 units, it can be removed after each patrol.

The main motor, servo`s, water pump, leveller and speed controller.

New transmitter for the little boats.

I have made my choice regarding this boat, it will be the U-2345 together with the U-2354, 2336 and 2337.
When they departed 0n 18 / 19 April, 1945 from Kiel Germany to Kristiansand, Norway.
I have three Bronco`s in my shipyard right now.
In the first pic you see a dock side. It`s Italeri`s long dock, i have 2 of them. Still need the dock side with stairs.

Ron, you did an amazing work with the snorkel and the naxos antenna. Also, the grill PE at the stern must have been difficult to tame, and you succeeded very well to adapt it to the model. The electronic gadgets and the remote control are like hyerogliphics to me but am sure you know how to handle them properly. If you are planning to have the tower hatch that can be opened and closed, superdetailing the inner side of the hatch to some extent would be advisable, considering the big scale of the model. Excellent choice of boat too: a very worn out boat, a weathering feast

Thanks for watching. Don`t wan`t to sound arrogant but that grill at the stern was just an easy one.
4th pic, the T-shape plate with rivets, that`s was a difficult one, gaves me a headache. Still not finished.

As for your advice, if it was a display model(not RC), i have certainly done that.
The CT is almost the height as the hull itself, and i don`t want to have a waggle boat when she is on the surface. Trying to keep the CT light as possible.
The brass for the Snort was inevitable, didn`t want to use aluminium.

O yes, can`t wait for using my airbrush again on this baby, and the dock side, it`s bin long, long time.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for posting. I can't remember who told me, I think it was Bob from OTW, but I remember being told to keep the conning tower of an R/C sub light so that it doesn't waggle about on the surface. Always best to keep the centre of gravity low.

Those Italeri dock sections are good, I used parts from them in a dockside build and they were very handy.

I am sorry for this absence on AMP. The health issues in my family were from bad to worse.
My mother lost the batlle with cancer on last 21 Januari. She died in the Hospital.
I am now sort of caregiver for my dad. And i am his only child. Since my last post on 11 August 2021.
I was in the Hospital more, than i was at home.

I have some updates regarding the boats(s) and dio. I will post them soon.

Here is a little teaser.
The street lantarn is just a dry fit.

I am really sorry to hear of the loss of your mother, please accept my condolences. I hope things are going okay with your father.

Last couple of weeks did not much work on the boat itself, but i bought some nice goodies.
Please have a look.

New periscope, i love it.

New brass proppelor.

Maintenance crew.

Barrels and food supplies.

Swasticas for the buildings.

Two Seehunds for the dio.

New NIMH battery pack for the transmitter.
8 cells, 9,6 Volts. 4300 mAh.

New NIMH charger for the transmitter, max 8 cells. 1000 - 8000 mAh.

I can now trickle charge these batteries 24/7 without destroying them, when not in use.

Charging,

Trickle charging.

And the Revell 1:72 Skipjack class. It`s my first non German submarine.

This workbench will be moved to another room in a couple of weeks/months.

Hi Ron,

Thanks for the update. I like the maintenance figures and barrels. 1/35th is a good scale for a diorama, I enjoyed adding little details to the Accurate Armour dockside such as oil barrels, seagulls, a rat, rubble, welding equipment etc.

Have you had your R/C boat running on the pond or has the first launch still to come?

Also are you going to make the Skipjack an R/C model? It looks big enough to house a dive module despite being a plastic kit.

Hi Dougie,

Robbe`s U-47 was my first and last boat commissioned. Decommissioned many years ago.
She will be commissioned again in the future with a major overhaul. My fiend has allready finished the 3-D printed bulkheads for the WTC.
I have allready most of the PE parts from Boris.

The old bulkheads (grey), i didn`t like.

Hello Ron,
I remember recommissioning my HMS Vanguard a few years ago with a new dive module, changing from a dynamic to a static boat. It was like a whole new project, rippin things out and starting over. I hope your recommissioning goes well. Also would like to see the dive module when it goes in the USS Shark.

Vanguard from OTW??

Working on the Navigation lights. I am going for the more tradional way. Red for left, green for right.
These leds are watertight, i am using the same leds for my 3D printed street lights, only they are warm white.

The Bronco manual way.

Example. The commissioning of U-2332. The Oberleutnant zur See is Dieter Bornkessel.

Not much to report, decided to remove the paint job from the flat-bed with nail polish remover. I was not happy, it irritated me.
Some parts broke off, i was allreay aware of that would happen.
Also working on the new tech-rack for the U-47, there is little malfunction in the electronics.
The servos are nervous, in the neutral state. More on that later.

Paint job almost removed.

Vallejo wheaterings set.

And these models for a future project are on my most wanted list, a littlebit expensive. I have to think about it.
