U552 was commissioned with the early war Switchboard (Round Type) as shown in the photos. Around mid-war a lot (but not all) of surviving early war Uboats were upgraded as able to the Late war Switchboards (Rectangular Type) as seen on U995.

The Late War Switchboards (rectangular types) as in Don Prince researched, used a lot less Copper but was expensive to upgrade.

Trumpeter 1/48th Uboat has made the mistake of modelling only the the Late war (rectangular) board

QUESTION. Does anyone know if U552 was upgraded to a Late War Switchboard at some stage??

thanks

Fyi.
Any research ,limited info and the few photos I can find seems to suggest but cannot prove that U552 never recieved a Switchboard upgrade (as some early Type VIIC s did) to the mid/late type that U995 has.

But as I'm building an early war U552 I have replaced the kit late war Switchboard with the early war type. Thanks to Dons Switchboard info in his Skizzenbuch we have original manufacturerers pictures (albeit fuzzy) of this Switchboard.

Here is a WIP with still lots to do.

Wow, that looks great. Your electric motor looks good too. Glad to see someone making some progress!
