U boat VII C in 1/87 Scale (H0)
« on: 05 Oct , 2016, 12:41 »
Hi Gents,

don't know if this kit was mentioned before here:

http://www.artitecshop.com/de/u-boot-vii-c-wasserlinie.html

Scale is 1/87 – the classic model railway size H0. Pity that Artitec offers only a waterline version of the boat. I like the scale, smaller than 1/72 but big enough for details. IMO a good choice between 1/72 and 1/100 (the classic paper model scale for ships). Artitec is a company based in the Netherlands well known for their fine resin kits and completed models.

Hi Falo,

Thanks for posting this, I haven't seen it before.

The fact they have gone for a planked deck with a Turm 0 tower is disappointing to say the least. Only one boat had this combination that I know of. That was U 235 in December 1942 and that was a test boat. The problem is that U 235 had an Atlantic bow at that time rather than the standard bow which is on the kit. So the modeller who wishes to make it U 235 would have to remove the net cutter, change the standard bow to Atlantic bow, remove the deck gun and add a FuMO 30 box.

I think I'll give this one a miss.

Cheers,

Dougie

Hi Dougie,

thanks for your technical review and for sharing your knowledge.
A little bit disappointing how sloppy Artitec has researched.
