degaussing and TBT
« on: 21 Dec , 2011, 04:35 »
This from the very generous Mike K - the site was causing him a tech issue, so here goes in an alt way:

Item one: If you want to show the degaussing cables, you'll have to do a diorama. Degaussing cables were draped over a sub's hull (for degaussing) at the end of a yard period. After that they were put back, up in the shop. No permanent mounting ie. no additional detailing necessary.

Item two: I've got pictiures of the MK 91 Telescope.
It looks like a very large (and heavy) pair of binoculars. They are watertight and rated to about 800 feet. It is used as the sighting optics for the TBT and the pointer and trainer's sights on the deck gun(s).        (Note: See picture below.)
And I've got one.
I've taken 23 pictures of it (See attachmants) and can post them on the gallery, if any one's interested.
