Aft Torpedo Storage and Loading
« on: 09 Apr , 2020, 14:41 »
Here's an interesting observation from my Trumpeter 1/48 scale build.

As the G7e Torps in the kit are too small I'm lengthening them to correct size which actually makes this worse in real life..
The kit Aft area is to scale as per any scale drawings available
When in storage underfloor the Torpedo rear had to protrude under the engine room floor.
That fact is drawn on most scale drawings.
So even with lifting all the walkway floor plates and winching the Torp out it must have been one hell of a job when the Torp was so long

There are a number of External Aft loading pictures.

Anyone ( Natter?) have any real INTERNAL aft photos of a  Torp loading any idea how they achieved it in real life?

Maybe they had to raise it on such an angle to clear the Engine room bulkhead then slide it forwards and back....still one hell of a job!!!!!

PS I just noticed from the scale drawing below that the Torp might just fit but there are conflicting dimensions between drawings....
