Hi, am gathering some information about Italian submarine Scire, which is maybe the most famous Italian sub of WW2, carrier of manned torpedoes in a number of daring missions.
In the only known picture of the submarine modified turret (picture 1, left), it looks like the fore part of the turret hosts 2 separated mounts for AA guns. The picture doesn't allow for a clear identification of the guns (are the guns there or those are only the mounts, can't tell really) which I speculate could be two single-barreled 8mm Breda M37 (a), rather than the 13.2 mm guns such as the one in the watertight container located after the periscope mounts (that was salvaged from the wreck of Scire postwar -same pic, b). 3D artist of the Kagero book about Scire assumes so, but he got an incorrect rendering of the turret: a correct drawing can be found in a publication by E.Bagnasco - picture 2, right) and so this is most confusing to me.
Questions:
a) watertight containers for the guns, just like the one for the aft 13.2 mm twin-barreled Breda Gun (b in picture 1) but smaller or
b) fixed mounts and no watertight containers
c) any information about details of the turret deck arrangements, such as voicepipes, repeaters, hatches, periscope mounts, wooden deck (listing vs perforated catwalks), etc. I am sure the italian subs should have had plenty of gadgets on their turret decks (such as Uboats or any other sub had), but turrets decks were seldom photographed at the time, maybe for a matter of secrecy and so reference pics are scarce.
Any information will be most welcome since what I know about the modified turret is almost nil and I don't know where to look for.
Thank you in advance
SG
