Very cool on one level...but I am reminded of the "new" Battlestar Galactica series..and how the Cylons hacked every network and took control like shutting off a switch...sure, SciFi, but so is this boat! LOL

YUP! Nothing like have a real valve to put your hand on instead of a picture on a tv monitor...

If the valves are all computer controlled, how will a leak be stopped if the in-rushing water shorts out the computer console?. Hull and backup valves will still have to have the option of manual control.  There are certain things on a submarine that cannot be automated. If they do, then look for another Thresher-style disaster..

Yes Capn, I believe you are correct. Fly by wire has great advantages, but..my car fried a switch in the steering clumn...it talked to the computer to operate lights, wipers, turn signals. All fancy and hi-tek, but I was missing the old says - a wire interrupted by a manual switch and no combinations attached together!
