Help Request Diorama showing meeting of U-154 IX and U-564 on August 5th 1942. Well need info and help showing this meeting.

I would like to make a "mirror image" Diorama showing the transfer of torpedoes between U-154 and U-564. U-154 a IXC was on it's homeward bound trip, due to an oil leak that was leaving a trail and Captain Kolle's "stomach" problems. U-564 a VIIC under Captain "Teddy" Suhren's command was almost out of torpedoes and looking for more action. Using the story and pictures shown in the book "U-Boat War Patrol" as a basic guide to create my diaroma. Why mirror image??

Because I want to use the internal CMK parts to show some of the insides of U-564. The CMK parts are for Starboard usage. I plan to have the U-564 at the close edge of the diaroma for easy internal viewing. The pictures in the above book show the U-154 on the starboard side of U-564. Therefore to have the best viewing of the internal parts on the U-564 I'm having to do a mirror image diaroma.

My main help request is for information on the details of how the boats looked on August 5th, 1942.

For the U-154 this means the starting model is Revell of Germany RVL-5114 a 1/72 German Type IX C (U505 Late) Submarine will need several changes to make it look like the U-154 a IXC in 1942. This is the one of the areas that I'm needing help in.

For the U-564 I'll be starting with Revell of Germany RVL-05015 and following Frank Dargies great build. Also going to follow Glenn Cauley's and Siara's great build threads and websites. Also this great website.

Still I want to make sure that I change whatever needs changing to that meeting date of August 5th, 1942.

I'm going to post this under the VII topics and the IX topics with my thoughts and help request under each of the two different type of U-Boats.
This will help (I think) keep the thoughts aboout each type of U-Boat under the correct type of U-Boat topic.

Thanks in advance for any help.

U-154 a Class IXC U-Boat whose keel was laid on 9/21/1940 at AG Weser. Bermen
launched 4/21/41
commissioned 8/02/41
8 patrols
1st left 2/07/42
    reached Lorient 3/01/42
2nd left 3/11/42
    returned 5/09/42
3rd left 6/04/42
meet and transfered torpedos to U-564 on 8/05/42 -- This is the event that I'm interested in.
    returned Lorient 8/23/42
On the 9th patrol U-154 was sunk with all hands lost 7/03/44

I feel that there was not a lot of down time between patrols 1 and 3 for any major refitings. There was about 30 days between the 2nd and 3rd patrols but?
Therefore I feel that on the meeting date of 8/05/42 the U-154 might look like it did when it was launched.

Any help on this would be great.

I'm starting with the Revell of Germany U-505 - RVL-5114 - 1/72 and going to add and change as needed.

Just found Glann Cauley's U-505 build website and will start reviewing it next.

1st Conning tower  --  should be first style not what the model U-505 shows at time of capture.
2nd Planning to add 105mm deck cannon
3rd What else needs to be changed -- your help is requested here

Hey Later Tim, I found a picture of the refueling you're after. I hope you don't have it already

I've also found a few pictures of U564 (taken in 1941 and 1942) and of U154, but i need time to scan them.
Too late for that tonight: I'll send them asap, tomorrow if i manage to have a bit of spare time from work or in two days
Cheers !

PS you can also find a few pictures of U154 here:

Thanks for sharing. That pic and the story in the book "U-Boat War Patrol, which is a photo history made on one of the U-564 patrols" were what made my mind up as to making the diorama.

Also Thanks for that link about the U-154. Nice link to a lot of U-Boats. In French but will deal with it.

Hi 42rocker,

Just a suggestion CMK are going to release the internal compartments for the type IX, from a video of the forward torpedo room has been spotted and as the type VII set are for the starboard side, as yet there is no release date.
You could build the U 564 while you're waiting.  ;D

I thought about that but I'm going to keep the U-154 (IXC) in the center of the Ocean Diorama. Therefore anything below the water line will not be seen on the U-154. Also I'll want the right side of the U-564 VIIC at the edge of the diorama to show off the inside of a sub and the transfer off the torps to be the center of interest.

Now that said I've been on the U-505 to many times not to model a U-505 sometime in the future with all of the inside details. So I'll be waiting for the CMK folks to come out with their material. That's if God grants me the time and money to do it. I'm happy to say that my Father and Mother took me on the U-505 and my Wife and I had the pleasure of taking our two children on it also. So that's a build for the future.

Thanks for reminding me that the Class IXC CMK sets are coming out.

Just want to say THANKS for those pics of the U-154 and U-564 that you sent me. Great.

Well now I know a little more about how the U-154 looked. Anyone that can help out on the U-154 I would be grateful.

I've been reviewing the great Wolfpack info and trying to make my mind on which this and which that I'll be using for the Class VIIC U-564. I try to post what I'm going to do for the U-564 under the Class VII topics area.
Now if there was just something like that for the IVC series. Thanks to everyone that helped to make the Wolfpack info happen for the Class VII series of subs.

SG you were Very Helpful.

Go for it -- Well not quite yet. Still getting myself and the area setup and also still finishing a Gato. Gato first then the CMK Class VII engine room is next on the mind.

Still think that I need more info on the Class IXC U-154 before I get going on that one.

 :)Hello!
I am in the process of converting the Revell  Type IX C Late back to the early U-154 as well.  A lot of changes will need to be done to do this.
1. 10.5cm Gun installed front deck.
2. 3.7 cm gun installed aft deck.
3. Entire different deck
4. Converted Trum back to early single 2.0cm gun installed.
These are just the main changes needed to convert the Revell Model back to the earlier U-154.
I am working on these right now.  The deck is being designed and made as we speak. Major changes there.
Good luck with your build and the future diorama. Sounds like a neat project!
Regards,
Dan

Had the daughter's family (2 grandchildren) over and had a good Easter dinner.
Yes, outstanding work on both wolfpack articles.
Thanks again to you and everyone that helped you out.

To everyone

Been reviewing the kits and upgrades. Wow a lot of stuff out there.

Now with the U505 kit and upgrades available, I have been reviewing my mirror idea. I guess that now I need to change the mirror idea. My main problem is budget, LOL. Due to the fact that my parents took me on the U-505, then went myself, then took my wife and children, I really want to try to build a detailed U-505. Now to buy another set of detail kits for this.... Well there goes a budget.

Well back to planning what kits to buy.

Happy Easter to everyone.
