Dear All
can anyone provide me some infos of the Deck railings of Typ ViiC Subs .?
I wanted to know what would be the diameter of the used pipes or round bars ?
Has anyone some pictures of the removable bars on the later typ deck railings .
Thanks for the help as always

I guess the removable deckrailing was not very much used on the frontline boats during WW2. The reason being they rattled a lot. We used the removable railing on work up, but usually removed the railing and stored same duly secured in the casing during patrols. Along the casingside there are holes about 30-35 mm dia. were you secured the round stanchions of about the same diameter having an eye on the top where you stretched a wire. Below are two images where you see the lay out. Indeed very simple but noisy.

Dear Tore
Many thanks for the help at first .
Could you help me to find the diameter on used round bars which the railing was made of .
if i take measurments of original photos i came to 18-20 mm but i am not sure about that .
Thanks again

I guess 18-20 mm diameter is too small. The stanchions were made of three different diameter pipes. My guesstimate would be lower 35 mm , middle 30 mm and upper some 25 mm.

Just a close up of the stanchion below. I have seen a simpler version of just an even tube with a smaller diameter having a welded eye on the top side but doubt if that is an original.
