I was at my local hobby shop the other day and after talking with one of the salespersons, he mentioned that Revell may be re-releasing the Gato configured after the USS Cod possibly in June/July. He said he wasn't sure of this, just a rumour he heard.
I was wondering if this may be a possibility. About the only changes would be to the conning tower, masts, and gun armament. Not much different than what they did with the Type VIIC.
I haven't picked up a Gato yet but I would like a Cod version more than a Cobia, especially since I work in Cleveland and visit the Cod several times a year. Not that a conversion would be that difficult. I just would hate to buy it now as is and then have it released as the Cod afterward.

Hi Goose,
I am copying this post to the NEW FORUM (models.rokket.biz/index.php)
I think it's inevitable that revell will re-release the Gato with updates, but probably much liek the VIIC/41. The present kit is a good POST war boat, and needs some important mods to ake it WWII (IMHO). I see your point about waiting, and it is probbaly smart, even if Revell wimps out or somehow fails to deliver as much as is expected. certainly no harm.
There are a lot of improvements and custom bits possible, all coming in the future somehow!
