Title: "88mm" deck gun...
Post by: billp51d on 01 Feb , 2009, 06:27
..Reading about most u-boat patrols, most of the time the "88mm" deck gun is mentioned.. Now and then you will see mentioned, though the use of a "105 mm".. The question..Was this installed at the special request of the commander? Used experimentally for combat? Logistically more practical?.. Interesting! .....Anybody know why?

Hi Bill,

Type VIIs had 88mms, Type IXs had the 105mm. So if they talk of a 105mm you know it belongs to a Type IX.

Cheers,

Dougie
