Title: Finemolds Kaiten in 1:72
Post by: Mr.Mox on 16 Feb , 2009, 14:05
A little "in between" project - the finemold Kaiten in 1:72 - oneway trip :D

Nice and easy little kit, some clean up is needen on the two hull halwes, but otherwise its a 20 min. project.

Painting should, according to instructions, be a training version. "sharp" versions is all black, but this looked so much more cool.

Only a basepaint, still have to ad decals (tiny) and wheatering etc. - It comes on a trolly, so I have done a small base with a bit of rails laid out to present it - otherwise its gonna vanish between my other subs :D

Cheers/Jan

Pretty nifty little project there Jan.  The paint job does look cool in a deadly sort of way.

Hi Jan, the base is very cool.  Did it come with the model?

By the way, did you get the personal message I sent?

Sincerely,
Ernest

Thanks Ernest - and Ups, I have now  ;)

The base is homemade with a piece of carboard, some wallfiller, sand, static grass and evergreen plast strips for the rails. I used to do armor so i have done my share of dioramas and picked up some tecniques.

Nice human torpedo. The groundwork really adds extra detail to otherwise plain sub. I heard the stories that chosen sailors were welded in so to make sure they hit the targets. Is that true? ???

Congratulations, the whole lot looks very good and convey a special atmosphere very suitable for a small subject like that.

Do you plan to add a figure to it? ;)

Very nice vignette Jan!  The groundwork is outstanding.  I wish the groundwork on my 1/48th scale dioramas look as good. :'(

Could you say a word or two about this sub? I know nothing about it!

Generally care should be exercised around using Wiki as a referance, but in this case it seems to be ok http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaiten) - this is the type 1 - wich basically is a oneman suicide submarine constructed around basic components from standard japanese torpedoes.

Later types were a more individual design.

Succes was limited seen from the Japanese standpoint, from a allied view it was a blessing of wasted time, resources and manpower  ;D
