SN Typ IIA "U4" with AMP upgrade
« on: 21 Aug , 2009, 08:29 »
Hello,

I want to show you my current work. Normaly I`m armor modeller, but this year let a dream come true and I want to build Revell Typ VII in 1:72.
And to prepare this I started  with Revell S-100 and now I move on to the SN Typ IIA.
When I saw the AMP upgrade set I was really exited.
I think I was one of the first who recieved the set and now here is where I`m standing right now.
I`m going to build U4 in his 1938 configuration.
The two stern parts are finished:

I`m now at the bow parts. Fitting in the pe parts is easier than I first thought.
But lets see how the fitting of part 3 will be.

With the pe vent holes in place it looks really nice.

More to follow

Greetings Christian

Hello,

after a small break 8) I removed the dust from my boat and moved along.
The hull is glued together, pics will follow on the weekend, and the turret is nearly finished.
But see for your self:

Still missing is the voicepipe and the compass. And I'm not sure if a add the eagle or not.
Nether the less it will be a 1938/39 prewar U4.

Hope you like it.

Hi Christian, your build looks very nice.  Clean and good construction technique, especially with the PE parts.  I look forward to seeing it further it some some as it takes shape.

Thank you guys.
As promised here is a complete view of the boat.

There are still some parts missing, so I have to carefully check the instrutions, because I don't wanne miss a thing.

Just a question, as I don't use the AA gun, have I fill the intendend place for it?

Hello Christian,

Thanks for posting photos and for using the AMP set, the boat looks fantastic. Regarding the space in the 20mm position, I have seen five photos of real boats in which the 20mm position looks just as your boat looks now.

I have seen one photo (U 3 in wartime) where the gap was filled in top leave a perfectly flat deck area.

Personally I would leave it as it is.

Please post more photos when you paint your U 4.

Cheers,

Dougie

Thanks guys. I'm just priming the hull before I will add the last details.

But I just started to paint figures again and this where I am with the u-boat crew:

They are not completely finished, but look quite nice so far.
The Hecker Goros figs are indeed really nice.

Excellent work Christian! I agree w you that H&G figures are beautifully sculpted and pretty realistic. What's the status of the Boat by the way?

While I'm waiting for parts for my XI C kits, I'm back to working on my II A's.  I had all the parts together, including 2 sets of AMP PE.  Know I can't find one of the kit PE frets.  It seems to have vanished, and I need the tower instrument deck and the metal panels for the torpedo tubes.  Anyone got a spare fret that comes with the kit, or a source for one????

Hi Thom,

Can you send me an email with the fret you need and we can see about helping you out.

Cheers,

Dougie
