U-217 / Type VIID
« on: 21 Mar , 2011, 13:04 »
Hi Mates,

Thank you dougie and wink for your kindness and interest :)

I wish you all great fun !!!

Of course i'm also building the sub, the revell kit + griffon PE set are ready, at home. For the moment i'm 3500 km far from the kit
but it should be on the workbench next month.
I will build a type VIID, no specific number, "just" this beaut sub, hopefully a nice model, surely with major fun.

Sharing will be the my main modeling guideline.

I'm mostly excited about all what will come around the building ; research, photos, stories, drawings, blueprints, artwork, and my fellow's buildings.

Hope to see and read from you soon  :)

Cheers,
Pepper

From bracco's great link, (would have been better with smiling faces...  ;D)

Pepper! I'm glad you are doing this build, I'm also working on a type VIIC with the Griffon PE and I'm eager to start it.
Seeing all the great photos that were posted in the other thread I want to tempt you to choose a specific boat, I love to see models with a nice historic background. The VIID with schnorkel seems very tempting or the camouflaged one. It's your choice!

Hello,

I started the type VIID, U-217.
I think it's gonna take a while... but hopefully she'll be a nice model.
I chose U-217 for the camo but it seems that according to the last posted pics U-218 has got the same camo type. (?)

Starting point, as usual ; vents, hull, and the rudders section.
I reinforced the deck with styrene, more easy to handle and no "click" or "tack" during the building process.
The PE set from griffon is really nice but the parts are also really small. No torpedo loading device.

TBC...

Cheers,
Pepper-M

Great to see some progress! Will you add the oil canning effect to it?

paint might be the easiest on this scale. Just a little quick pass with the airbrush, a bit darker in the center of each frame.
