Kassandra's 1/48 AH-64 Apache Helicopter

(1/2) > >>

TRM:
Hello All,

A while back, my daughter Kassandra received a model as a gift.  It was Revell's 1/48 AH-64 Apache Helicopter. With all the things that gone on, we were unable to get started on it. Now, after having her reviewing some of the builds from you guys, the interest has reached the point to the build.

Kassandra is 10 and very, let's say, detail oriented. She will be constructing this, of course I will help when needed.  She is interested in creating a Black AH-64 with appropriate weathering and wear-n-tear.

This will be a great build.  Even better, because it is something we can share together.  We will be updating the post periodically as we go.

Thanks for stopping by her build....

Cheers!

TRM:
A couple of reference photos to get us started. ;D

Update:  We have discussed how the model will be displayed.  She would like to show the craft with a Tarmac Diorama.  This means cutting some pieces of wood in preparation soon.

She is a fear-sum beast....I am talking about the AH of course! 8)

Thanks!

Cheers!

Rokket:
this sounds like it's going to be COOL! This is awesome encouraging her, altho it sounds like you must tame her and dampen a bit!

TRM:
Thanks Wink!  Her and I both agree, cool! 8)  Tame?  No, she is the quiet one (most of the time).

Update:

Together we decided the cockpit was the place to start.  She is understanding that the directions are merely "guidelines", a sort of reference if you will.

She collected all the pieces for the cockpit...

Sanding and scraping, checking the fit....

Here she is removing the molded belts and scarifying up the seats a little....they need to be worn in...

I found some left over PE seat belts from a Huey I slapped together, they will work nicely...

An attempt to jaz-up the pedals and gluing them into place...

Ahh, the pieces mostly ready for some paint...If you squint really hard, you can see part of the U-69's pressure hull taking shape in the background.

Here she is trying out the Airbrush for the first time...Like a pro!

A primer coat is complete....now on to some quick tricks on making the gauges pop a little....

Rokket:
very cool. Looking good.

This build has many layers and I'm very excited about it.
