Hello Bobi and Welcome,
I don't really know what that object is in the photo. I might be wrong, but I believe that the boat in the photo is not U-69 because the flooding vent pattern seems to be that of a VIIB boat. Perhaps some of the experts here can help out with this.
Regards,
Mr. Bill

Hi Bobi and Mr. Bill,
You are right Mr. Bill about this photo - it is definitely not U 69. It is the Type VIIB U 54 on the day of her launch, 15 August 1939.
I am not sure what the shroud pointed to by the red arrow is. It was there on the early VIIBs such as U 54 and U 47. But this feature was not present on later VIIBs such as U 99. I haven't seen it on any VIICs so U 69 did not have it. I presume this feature was removed from the VII class before the introduction of the VIIC variant.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Dougie

Hi Bobi, Bill and Dougie,
I asked the same question in the forum of U-Historia, here in Spain, it is very likely to be a speed measuring device. Also used in other types of boats.

Bobi, it is very difficult to find these pictures you ask. I have passion for the U69, and the pictures that I found are very few.
Sorry for the on-line translation. :-[

Hi Bobi,
As requested, below are three photos of U 69 on the day of her launch, 19 September 1940-

If you look between the UWT plates on U 69, you will see that the GHGs are in different locations on U 69 than on the Revell kit. (The GHGs are the circles above the forward diveplanes)
Cheers,
Dougie
