Post by: Nevermind4712 on 28 Dec , 2011, 15:33
Hi,..i start this Project too, because,..is boring to wait if something is dry at the VII/C  ;D

Ok,..is start this Project with a Question.

Look at this Pic, this are weldlines or "Doublers"?

( U-2)

In my Eyes are this thick weldlines.
Its hard to get much information about ths Type...know someone more about it?.
I know that comes a order after the building from the Versikko that no Rivets have to be used, welds have to be come at the boats.
And the first Boats have no Rivets,..the later have it.

But what is with this "doublers"?

Tomorrow you get the first Pics from the model, me Cam need to load some Power:\

I'm NOT a Type II expert, but those look like welds to me. Very roundy, and quite thin as compared to doublers. Note that in all subs, welds had (and still do today) to be strong. That means wide and deep.

Doublers were just "battens" or strips of metal slapped on to stiffen or strengthen parts of the outer hull casing. It must not have been necessary on the Type II (or thought of later). Everything about those lines i the pic says 'welds" to me

Hey Rokket:)

Ok,..i research a little bit and it looks that the first Boats have weldlines at the top and doublers at the bottom,..a mix:)
I saw a Pic from U1 und at the Heck under the Waterline was a doubler,..to thick for a weldline.

Yup, looking at the pic again, the dark bit, near the sound discs, looks like a double-type thing, certainly not a weld.

My interpretation:
