Good Book
« on: 02 Sep , 2007, 03:15 »
You prolly all have read this, but am reading Thunder Below by Eugene Fluckey. Great book about the Barb. What strikes me right away is the almost superhero-ego of "Capt Gene", but then you find out he deserves to have a little healthy ego, he did win the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross x FOUR!

For SciFi fans, he's like Isaac Asimov, healthy ego well deserved. Admiral Fluckey just deied a month+ ago I think. Definitely someone to have lunch with.

Soon will start War Beneath the Sea,  USN WWII sub stuff. Anyone read these?

Yeah, I remember Admiral Flucky. I got a chance to introduce Brandi to him, back in the early 90s. She was 3 or 4 and still remembers him. He may have had a huge ego, but he had a heart, and sense of humor, to match. A Hell of a Submariner, a Hell of a man and a damned fine human being. He, truly was, one of that rear breed of person, who could be called "Larger than Life"!
Anyone who ever met him feels his lose. It'll be a long time till the pain eases.
