8,8 cm Afrika Korps
« on: 12 Jan , 2014, 08:02 »
I finished this diorama before the 1/32 Scale Bf 109 E-4.  It is AFV Club's 1/35 scale Flak 18 with some aftermarket figures and ammo.  The scene depicts an action either during Operation Battleaxe or Operation Brevity during the May-June 1941 timeframe.  I used the hairspray technique to chip and fade the paint, which I did fairly heavily as I wanted to show an 8,8 that had been painted with local stocks of paint as was done historically.  This paint faded and chipped quickly in the harsh desert environment due to it being of uneven quality.  8,8's often operated from temporary positions either set directly on the desert floor or still on their carriage during the battles of maneuver that were common in North Africa.  Critiques and questions are welcome!

Enjoy the photos,
Ernest

Superb Love the tire, and the landscape, and the "just right" weathering. If you shot that outside against a far away appropriate landscape, it would be very real. Well done.

Thanks for the kind words NZ and Wink.  I just started Revell's big 1/32 scale Ju88 A-1 with lots of AM stuff.  I don't know if there is enough interest here to do a build log like I did with the uboots I have built.  What do you guy's think.

Well done Ernest!!!
A very effective use of the hairspray technique. Also, the figures are very well done and the desertic terrain is rendered at its best. Congrats!!!!

Thank you SG, the build turned out pretty well.  Believe it or not the stones in the "desert" are actually cat litter.   :o

Sounds like a plan Wink!  I have barely scratched the surface of this build so now is a good time to start a build log.
