Title: Torpedo Loading Gear
Post by: lucasner on 02 Feb , 2014, 15:11
How did this mast mount to the bridge for loading the torpedoes? I cannot find a good photo of the attachment point for this thing. Other than it looks like it attaches next to the Sky-Periscope I have no idea if there is some sort of fitting or socket on the bridge deck.
Thanks,
Dave

Like your top pic. The ends of the supports have been crushed flat (or flats welded on), and they bolt to a little plate where the coaming ends and the deck rail meet. I depicted from a different pic for my build. I'll see if I can find it.

Well, couldn't find it, found something, but not the one I wanted.

Rokket
If we only had that time machine. But then if we changed one thing would we still be here??

Go back and only take pictures and not be able to change things that would be the ticket..

Details Details Details -- Look what this sharing has brought us at this time. In a few more weeks will things be lost or more stuff shared on this great world wide web.

Here is how the U-564 handled it.  Sorry to say as of 04/19/2018 following is a dead link. Updates anyone??

From what I can tell they did not use gear like that at that time. So new question when did they start using gear like that on top??

That's an at sea load, though, and there was still a shot of tackle going up at a severe angle ( presumably the tower) for the load down the hatch.

From the video and photos in the book, it looks like the gear is clipped/hooked to the top of the conning tower. The other gear at the start of this thread looks a lot nicer. For my diorama I'll be going with a clip like hook up.

Hi All

does anyone know where all this loading stuff was stored on the submarine ?
i have checked some Pictures and for example the sliding rail was quit huge i guess that stuff was not stored inside the Sub, maybe somewhere on the pressure hull .

Thanks

Interesting. I do not know. Maybe NZ Snowman knows, he has made AWESOME plans of just about everything about VIIs.

This is something I been researching for a while now, but had yet to see any plans, photo’ or detail etc… on this  :(

But I believe Tore said they store it under the deck.

I can not imagine there not a bracket system under the deck to hold it in place.

Maciek, may have a better idea on this subject.

Hi all,

at U-Boot im Focus 12 is a very good picture of that.

You can clearly see that the rods are stowed on the side of the opening for the Torpedo hatch.
For me it is also posible that the other stuff is also stored there.

I will not post that picture, because this is a brand new publication and Editor also is not luky about "photo theft" (See Editional).

To buy this publication will be a very good deal for al enthusiast of German Uboats WWII.
It is more than worth the Money. You will get never seen photos and well researched storys.

Regards,

Uboatfan

Edit: The picture looked familiar to me. So i checked my Links and Pictures and found it:
I know it from U-boat Archive!

Anyone that wants to repost their pics on this subject it would be great.
I'll look for mine later tonight after I get home from work.

The book "U-boat war patrol" "The hidden photographic diary of U 564" by Lawrence Paterson has several pics on this area.
