Title: A 1/72 scale British boat.
Post by: chipper on 18 Aug , 2010, 14:33
It would be nice, no, terrific, if we could get Airfix to get off their bum and come out with a British T class or S class WW2 boat.  I mention Airfix only because they've alsways favored British military subjects and since Revell's already committed to two major kits, their Type VII and Gato boats.  Anyone interested?

Certainly interested!
It's a bit strange, that so few Brittish subs are available.
And not a single in 1/72.

S = classic, that would be popular I'd think.

I have this in the works  @ 1:72 scale. Anyone have a specific boat in mind?

I think, for the T class, the Tally-Ho P317, for the S class the Seraph P219, and for the U class, the Upholder N99.  I've been sending nuisance Emails to Airfix trying to get them into the game.  What do you have up your sleeve, Mike?

Seraph was streamlined after the war.

Mike, I personally would love the Seraph in her WW2 configuration, but, any British boat from any period in 1/72nd scale would be terrific.

I forgot to mention that I have an M1  in 1:72 scale.  We have the dive planes, rudder and gun already molded. I'm waiting on Mr. Merriman to produce the first hull from the molds.  Anyone interested?  I can speed this up if required.  Looking at about $300 for the kit.

Aw mate, I would be so interested. I dont know why I am so into submarines. I just love the lines of the 40`s boats. British subs are not given the recognition they deserve, and in that scale, it would be a work of art. Airfix were my favourite manufacturer when I was a kid. Get them to do it and I will buy one defo!

I have an up to date thread   http://forum.sub-driver.com/showthread.php?1522-The-British-T-Class-1-72-scale&p=16439#post16439 (http://forum.sub-driver.com/showthread.php?1522-The-British-T-Class-1-72-scale&p=16439#post16439)

You can see my progress in this photo

I am about to pour the 'above waterline port side' of the model. Then I'll remove the superstructure center-board, and pour the starboard side.  There will be four sections to this mold.

I remember when I lived in  England, '85-88, there was a guy named Darnell who offered a 1/48th scale T class for R/C use.  It actually was a pretty nice kit, not just a hull and tower, but fairly well detailed.  I had one of his type VIIC's, but sold it when I left Europe.  I read somewhere that the molds were sold to another company doing RC kits when Darnell passed away, but I do know they were out there.
