IMO a clever idea, a stand alone engine from cmk kits (1/72 scale):

Nice interior stuff, though we are still waiting for someone to create an accurate 10,5cm deck gun, and tower details.

Any timeline on those, that you know of?

Well after 4 months of no news on the Eduard-Brassin 10,5cm gun, I sent in another support ticket (see below).

I would invite others to join the campaign in asking Eduard for an update on the course of action & timeline for a corrected version.

Otherwise, I fear that nothing will get done.  :(

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello Libor,
It has been many many months since this issue was first reported, and 4 months since we last inquired about it.  To date, we have heard nothing further about the resolution of this issue.
The gun that was produced was a wonderful piece of work, but the mistake in the scale is much too big to overlook.  We are eager for a new, correctly-scaled version!
May we please have a firm update about what actions have been taken to resolve this issue, and the expected timeline for the release of the corrected product.
Please do not simply give us a cursory reply that the matter has been reported to Brassin... and that is it.  We deserve more than that.   :(
Respectfully,
Glenn Cauley
(on behalf of many in the model submarine community)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Oh Dan Dan Dan... you have NO idea how disappointed I was to find out the Eduard gun was waaaayyyy too big.  The detail on it is simply beautiful.  :'(
I had thought of the same thing as you... to kitbash.  Unfortunately, since the Eduard gun is roughly 22% too big, I doubt there are any parts that are useful to use on the RCSubs gun.

On another note, I heard back from Eduard support:

"Thanks for letting us know about this issue and for elaborating the details for us.
I've already passed your message to our Brassin development department. Our guys will look into this and decide, whether or not there's a mistake to fix.
If we want/need your further support, we'll get in touch with you.
Thanks again for your support!
Libor Havranek"

Uhmmmm...... I am not sure I like the choice of words....... "whether or not there's a mistake to fix."
There IS a mistake... a "22% too big" mistake...
I hope that they take responsibility for the error, so that they can move on and re-issue the kit, properly sized.

Again, I am calling on the good people here (who know their stuff) to lodge a complaint with Eduard... so they don't think I'm just some lone crackpot whistleblower type.    ;)

 :D :D :D

I just received this reply from Eduard support regarding the 10,5cm deck gun:

Quote
Dear Mr. Cauley,
We apologize for the delay. This issue has been discussed with our Brassin department. They redesigned this set  and we now already have these guns from the new mold.
So please, let me know  your postal address and the number of sets you need to be replaced. They will be dispatched during this week.
Also please, you can let your modeling friends , who also brought this set , know that the repaired set is allready availiable and they can contact us for replacements.

Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Have a nice day.
Petra Solcova

Sooooooooo, folks......... for anyone who needs a replacement 672053 to get a new version (properly sized, I pray) please contact Eduard support directly and reference the above reply for "Request #13533"

I will be watching this to see if you're pleased with the results. I may consider a deck gun for a future build. Did the "thin waist" IX Cs have deck guns?

Oh, I REALLY hope they got the dimensions correct.
If they used the prepared report - which contains lots of dimension - then it should be okay.
But regardless, I will be measuring everything and reporting my findings.

I don't know if the "thin waist" IXC had a deck gun.

Perhaps create a new topic where we can discuss all that stuff?

I finally have my engine room, electric motor room and after torpedo room kits in my hands. These are really awesome, and I'm excited to go through each box to get a fell of putting it all together.  I did get the extra diesel for the starboard side, I'll have to decide later if I want to block the view of the port side motor or not.  Anyway, CMK can through for met and I can now press on with my kit.  Its been so long, I'm not sure where I put it????? :-[

Hi Cap,

thanks for the link. It's amazing how bustling CMK is on the subject of 1/72 scale submarines and u boats.

Maybe this resin kits could could save us from the fiddly Griffon pe AA-Gun set: This very painful sound when the tweezers pinging a small pe-part into orbit   ;)

Hi falo, Anakin et al

Yup, the carpet monster is regularly fed by Griffon.

Seriously with all the recent 1:72 boats being released by Revell over the last few years it is surprising that there has been nothing new from Griffon.

Just wondered if a  2cm vierling could be scrounged from a 1/72 AFV kit? Some kind of half-track or something like that?

Italeri makes a 1/72 German Guns Set (#7206) that includes: 3.7cm Pak 37,       7.5cm Pak 40,           and 2cm Flakvierling 38
I have the set but never used it, so I don't know the quality of the Flakvierling.     (Usually I stole the Flakvierling out of an S-100 kit.)

Hi all,

two new torpedo sets "G7a" and "G7e" (1/72 scale) in resin. Looks like a complete resin solution without pe parts. Don't know if they match the quality of the turned metal torpedoes from Robert Schatton.

Just post the links in the IXC section but certainly they can combined with other U boats and S-Boats too.

I hope they are not as bad in quality as the ones that come with the front torpedo section for the viic. Mine were completely warped. The schatton torpedos win this hands down.

Would you say it is better than the Eduard set? I already have that one, so I am doubtful as to what it might add. The extra parts are nice, but is it worth the extra cash?

Hi Gents,

I've purchased the mpm AA gun set directly from cmkkits for a friend of mine as a birthday present, but before I will give him the bounty tonight here is a deep inbox review.

The kit (U boat IX weapon set 1/72, single 37 mm and two twin 20 mm cannons) comes in a sturdy box. Most of the parts are resin casting (very good quality without any bubbles and with sharp details), you get a pe fret (mostly hand wheels) and brass barrels. Don't know if the barrels match the quality of Schattons or Griffons.

First I will post pictures of the box and the instructions a second post with the parts layout will follow.

Looks like a nice set!
I have asked them if it is flat PE, or cast brass with round wire.
(For me... flat PE would never look right.)

Hi Glenn,

I didn't read the description properly and assumed that they were cast, based on previous sets and the look of the fitted rails.
At 0.5mm thickness it would be possible to sand them to a roundish profile. Guess it depends on how good someones soldering is.

GASP!    :o

I received my Tehnoart IXC railings last week, and finally unpackaged them last night.
As suspected, they are thick PE railings that will require some elbow grease to round them off.  But they appear to be very nicely done, and much more to scale than the kit plastic railings.

But the BIG news is that they also included tower railings!
This was TOTALLY unexpected!    I think I did a little 'happy dance.'   :D
I don't know if these will be permanently included in their offerings, or if it was just because I mentioned "hey it would be nice if you offered towered railings some day..." when I placed my order.

Hi All,

Glad to see the site back up.

After a quiet time out there Edward have released 3 P.E. frets for the IXc/40.

53158: German Submarine Type IX C/40 hull pt. 1

53159: German Submarine Type IX C/40 hull pt. 2

53160: German Submarine Type IX C/40 tower

I would expect a Big Ed set containing all 3 sets to be announced soon.

Hi all,

Type IX accessories have been quiet for a while, however I have some good news for those building early boats, the WEM 3.7cm SKC30U deck gun (PE 7213) is again available, now being sold by Atlantic Models, run by Peter Hall.

In fact Atlantic Models have also picked up the former WEM PE 7212 (G7a & G7e Torpedoes) and PE 7215 (2cm Flak Zwielling)
