Title: Wish List
Post by: Rokket on 25 Apr , 2007, 03:13
I would like to see a Balao conning tower, wooden decks, a 4" deck gun , single 40mm and single 20 mm guns in 1/72 scale. I second the motion on the wood decks too although I had in mind building mine from 1/32 wood with the spaces inbetween. Some railing stantions would be nice too.
Hows that for getting greedy!

I'm going to need a second 5"25, a second 40mm and a late war conning tower/.
Also a 2 2/3 " tube, for the pressure hull. Or, at least, hull tops.
Then there are the torpedo tube shutters and doors, turned brass periscopes, radar antennas, TBTs, deck hatches, the forward escape trunk companion way and details for it Conning tower access doors, wood deck for conning tower, conning officer, lookouts, and a mess crank dumping trash.
I'll address interior detail wants(such as torpedoes), when I've got more time, like a couple of days.

All of the above plus photoetched metal decks for Balao class, and limber hole patterns for Portsmouth built boats.

Hi there,

how about an very early conversion with the enclosed forward platform and the small cigarette-deck (like nautilus did for the 1/144 trumpeter kit)?
(Does this sound familiar to You, Wink?  ;D  )

Hi Ralf!

yes, sounds familiar!  ;D

Hmmm, an old style enclosed tower could be very interesting!

Well,
are they really looking good?
They seem to have a lot of soft detail and flash.
especially when you look at the vent gratings...........................

I'm sure IBS used some of their first run stuff for those pics. The people over at IBS are always improving their product and if any one has a concern with the product they'll do what it takes to make you happy.

Cool, but don't panic. Every set wil have good and bad, and many will be similar. But it WILL be exciting to have so many choices!

You said it! A 1300mm boat kit, with 3 yards building her and several personal configurations, the possibilities are almost endless!

Dougie Martindale and I have setup Accurate Model Parts - right now just u-boat decals (waterline and Snorting bull) and fabric flags, but we are already working on much Gato stuff:

Do you really want the top of the pressure hull plus all of the supertructure bracing? I ahve the plans and these could be done either in photo etch brass. But there are 130+ frames to be done, adn that would be a brass set costing way over $100.

I might be able to cut these out of cardboard (of all things). I ahve been designing radar sets and cutting the prototypes on a cardboard to tes fit the parts before I send it off to the etcher. I cut the parts at 1/20th so the thing will be big enough to easily assemble and measure any errors.
