Here are some pix of a modern spaceship, er, submarine:

Gato qual notes and plans were just declassified in 2005(-ish)., after 60 years of secrecy, most of that time no need fr classified... but this new nuke with super-hi-tek stuff is publicly advertised....hmmmmm, I don't get it!

Thanks, for the link :)

Maybe they need to justify the $2.5 billion price tag ::)

The trim controls do not look the same ;D ;D

Impressive vessel, but not sure how to word it.....I have it,  Holy Crap!  Something to say about the old way,  At least when the Drain Pump didn't work, it was either the valve, piping or the drain pump!  Now, the operator, program, PLC, 287 miles of wires, interference from 1st mates I-pod...... ;D   Thanks Simon!  Excellent comparison shot!  I will have to let my kids know, with all the video games they play, they can still grow up to sail a sub! ::)

Cheers!

Subs are still filled with redundant systems.  There's always manual overrides.  Prime example would be the WLR-9 emergency warning sensor.  If it picked up a torpedo, it would throw the sub into the necessary evasive maneuvers, ring up the appropriate speed, etc.  Problem is...certain fish triggered it.  After about the third "false alarm" the sub force "disconnected" it.

Cheers,

Don
