Thank you, gentlemen.
The boat is finished, here are few pictures:

Gorgeous little model, you tempted me to build it too! How long is it?

Thanks guys!
the model is pretty small: 11.5 inches (little bit over 29 cm).
It was painted with Humbrol enamels, weathering done with Citadel washes (designed originally for Wargamer figures, but I strongly recommend) and Tamiya Weathering set B.
The rigging is fishing line and the insulators painted blobs of superglue.

Overall, for $17 I've had a lot of fun with it. :D
It's a nice addition to my 1/144 collection of u-boats (the plan is to have all major types, with the exception of Type IX, which nobody makes yet...)

How was the fishing line to work with? Does it glue OK? I painted thread, which took care of any hairs that showed up on fairly hairless stuff, but it also seemed to give it strength against sagging. I'm guessing ca (superglue) bonds the fishing line OK?

You guess right, Wink. I used little globs of CA to glue the fishing line. The bonding is about 70/30 (maybe three out of ten glue spots I had to redo) but when the line "grabs" you can tug on it with fairly strong force to stretch it and the spot won't break. The only small problem I noticed is during painting: you have to get the consistency of the paint about right: not too runny, not too thick. The Humbrols (if you thin them too much) tend to "roll" on the surface of the fishing line and create small globs. If you get it right the paint adds almost nothing to the thickness of the line and looks pretty good as a result.

Thanks for the detailed info, Conus! Your end-result is most excellent! Well done! (I'm assuming you will be hoisting a Becks in celebration)
