Title: Egg Zeppelin
Post by: Siara on 14 Mar , 2009, 15:04
With easter fast approaching this is the little fun project to get me away from the shipyard for few days. I needed the break after 15 months on U-552.
Building the model of Zeppelin using chicken egg, and scratch built parts.
Hope you like it:

Hi Siara,

You egg zep is hilarious! Great concept and a wonderful eggample of creative modelmaking. The little details on the engines really made me smile - especially the PE grill!

Nice one.

I was to lazy to paint the markings EZ-1 on the sies of the blimp, so instead i checked the layout of the rest of the stuff that will make the little dio settings:
Readygrass mat from Woodland Scenics, flowers from Noch, and 1/220 scale schepherd, dog, and flock from Praiser.

One thing I have learned from all your work with the U-boat and this newest project........Every day items I see, I now wonder how I can use it towards my builds. Bits of wire, plastic, mesh, I look at all things now with a mind of useing it for scratch building........BUT I have never thought I could use an egg for a build.....GREAT work!!!!

Thanks Wildspear!
Thats how my day looks like- from the moment i get up, till the minute i go to bed im looking at the world through the recyclling prism.
Enything goes- dairy products ( best source of the styrene sheet is the yoghurt packaging  ;) ), old cables, insides of the electrical equipment ( really thin copper wire can be found here) and so on.
I can not drive past the bridge without looking at the way the rust bubbles the paint, all sorts of old wood is great inspiration to me also.
Old chains, gates, roofs, old vehicles- im looking at it like the madman.
I will put my observations into practice one day, and create something in the state of decay. Lots of rust, and old paint. I swear i will... ;D

I have masked the blimp, and painted the markings EZ-1 on the sides, unfortunately the tape came off with the bit of paint. Nothing surprising.

I managedd to mask it again, and respray the damaged areas, but still need to smooth it out, as the new paint is shining too much.
The wash, and pigments should do the trick.
Heres few mock up shots just for fun:

Hi Siara,

Great job on the Egg Zep, it is so unique that we won't forget about it!

I know what you mean about seeing everyday things with a different perspective. A few years back I went around town taking photos of rust on lamp posts and gates, and observing how different materials weathered. For some reason people couldn't understand what I was doing. I can't think why(!)

If you have space then you'd like the Accurate Armour (no relation to AMP by the way) 35th scale waterline VIIC and the accompanying dockside. It is expensive. But as it is in 35th scale you'd have a field day superdetailing it.

Cheers,

Dougie

Ill be working on the 1/9 scale BMW motorbike model next. The 1/35 scale sub is just to big for my place- maybe one day if i win the lottery, and get nice cosy pad with lots of space. ;D
