Hi All
Most of you know Shapeways but as I just received some 1/48th Hatches and Sailors from Shapeways and Ill share my thoughts.
All I can say is expensive but AWESOME.
I ordered 20 days ago and they arrived save and sound.
The detail is superb (I'm not sure how accurate size-wise they are but the look about right) and my photos unfortunately don't do them justice due to their see thruness.
My only gripe is that there is a slight fuzziness due to the linear nature of the 3D printer. I'm not sure how that will clean up or look when painted.
Anyone else have experience with clean up and painting of these small 3D items?
PS approx $60 USD delivered (Internationally) ) for 2 hatches and 5 Sailors. [/size]Ridiculous price for such small items but awesome detail and I'm sure over the years the pricing will reduce as it becomes more mainstream.

I have seen some of their prices, hard to see how they justify some of there high prices :(

BUMP
Follow up. The price is crazy. Hopefully it will drop to commodity pricing in the future.
However the result is superb and scrathbuilding would have taken way too long
The Hatch is so visible that it is a centerpiece so has been well worth it .
And its workable open and closes..

Fantastic work Raymic,
I never saw on internet something comparable to your conning tower interior....

Very nice interior work.

Hi Raymic,
where did you find the cover with BBC engraved letters ?
-
wow! Gorgeous.
The hatch is clear/frosted, I have read at the Shapeway site that that material allows for the finest resolution they con provide, interesting that it is still a bit "fuzzy"...I'd think you could clean them with a few fine passes.
