Title: Fokker E.V "Razor"
Post by: Greif on 18 Oct , 2010, 01:31
I started my next project last night.  It will be an OOB of Eduard's Fokker E.V kit.  Due to my other home construction projects, I have opted to do a couple of simple builds until I have completed the upgrades to my house.  This should be a fun little build.

Hi guys, I've made a bit of progress of the plane.  The following pictures show, in order:
A kit MG and one that has been improved with PE parts.  A picture of the competed MGs.  A couple of shots of the Cockpit, showing some of the PE parts and a scratchbuilt seat cushion.  Finally there are a couple of shots of the finished engine after a wash and some light drybrushing.

Enjoy,
Ernest

Ernest,

Very nice beginning!  PE makes an incredible difference!  Were the push rods a PE or homemade?  Either way, Superb! :D

Looking forward to more!

Cheers!

Thanks for the kind comments TRM.  The push rods are PE, a little fiddly to get in place but, as you pointed out, they make a big difference.

Cheers,
Ernest

I've made a bit of progress on the build. This little model has a surprising amount of detail and a bit of complexity.  The fuselage is mostly finished.  The camo is decals; I don't think I have either the patience or the skill to paint the pattern.  There are also a few PE parts that add a little spice.

The prop has been painted to resemble wood and a PE prop boss has been added.  To tell the truth I'm not super pleased with the results as I am working to simulate a laminated look.  It is very difficult to get straight lines and as you can see I have a long way to go before this technique is perfected.

The engine cowling has been painted using Mister Kit yellow and turned out very well.  I really like the Mister Kit paints and their yellow and white, two colors that are notoriously hard to get coverage and balance right, airbrush very well indeed.

The wing has recieved its base coat of a canvas color.  I used enamel paint here as I am going to attempt a new technique to simulate the Fokker "streaked" paint scheme using acrylics.  Wish me luck on that one!

Enjoy,
Ernest

It's a tiny beauty Ernest, decals are nicely applied.

For the propeller i have a technique ; i'll explain it to you tomorrow (i'm almost sleeping on my laptop...)  :)

Good luck if you're working on the wing painting.

Cheers,
Pepper

Hello Ernest, sorry for being late...

For the prop painting you just need an eraser : sculpt into the eraser 2 or 3 "channels". paint the prop with the tan color, let it dry and varnish it. A coat of brown paint and quickly "erase" the lines :

You can glide your prop on the higher side of the eraser, it gives a regular result.

Hope it helps...

Cheers,
Laurent.

Thanks for the tip Peppermint.  A very slick little trick that!

The "Razor" is nearing completion.  The following shots were all made prior to the sealing coats of Future and weathering.  I ended up painting the stripe pattern on the tail because I torn a decal badly trying to position it.  The machine guns turned out pretty nicely and the engine looks pretty good under the cowling.

My attempt at simulating the Fokker streaked paint job on the wing turned out ok though there is room for improvement.  I used Mister Kit paints for the colors.

Enjoy the pictures,
Ernest

Ernest- atractive looking model this. I like the way you dealt with the tail section- top marks for painting the stripes.
Is there a inner tube inside the PE gun shields? On some pictures it looks hollow?

Thanks Siara!  It really was pretty simple stuff painting the stripes on the tail; just a bit time consuming.  There is a piece of copper wire simulating gun barrels, painted gun metal, running along the bottom of the PE cooling jackets.  It is very hard to see.  Perhaps it would have been better to have painted them a different type of metal color to make them stand out.
