Title: 1/72 Scale Cables and insulators
Post by: dbauer on 29 Apr , 2010, 17:53
Hi!
I know this may have been gone over before but I need any ideas on what to use for cables and insulators  for my Type IX/C40 U-805 project.
Any thoughts or ideas will be nice.

Regards,
Dan

Hey Dan,

I'm new to the site and have not figured out ALL of there tricks as of yet.  However, you could try wooden block and reshaping them with needle file to the desired shape:http://web4.hobbylinc.com/icon/cns/cns80011.jpg

Also, you could try Sculpey or and other sort of modeling clay.  I mention Sculey because it is sold in many colors.  One may be real close to a color you are looking for and would need very little touch up.  Shape it, bake it in a toaster over for 15-20 minutes @ 275...you can sand it, add more and bake, paint it, drill it.  cool stuff.  ell in 2 oz. blocks...goes a long way.  Cheap money.  make a few to start and perfect and make some more.

I used it once to sculpt a figure head and other parts of a ship.  See her for an interesting transfer method I did: http://shipmodeling.net/vb_forum/thread6299-sculpey.html

top off thread is the procedure, scroll down for the final

I'm sure more of the member might have a lot of great ideas.  Good luck!
