"just in case you lie small uboats..." so WHO doesn't like u-boats of any kind?

Thanks for the link, looks to be a good model. Who's a II fan?

Hi Rapala,

Many Type IIs carried a 2cm deck gun. In some photos of Type IIs, a 2cm is mounted on top of a conical mount ahead of the conning tower.

In other photos, Type IIs can be seen with a cylindrical container mounted in this position. I'm guessing that this cylindrical container was watertight. When brought out the 2cm sat on top of this container.

But in some photos it can be seen that no deck gun is present. So not all boats carried a deck gun.

Hope you like the kit.

Cheers,

Dougie

Hi Sunny,

If you look towards the rear of the book Vom Original zum Modell: Uboottyp II you will see that U 2, U 3, U 4 and U 6 all have the cylindrical container late in their careers (when they were schood boats). Early in their careers they didn't have the deck gun.

On page 7 of U-Boot im Focus Edition 3 there is a very good photo of pre-war Type IIs. The cylindrical container is on the deck of U 6 but not U 3 or U 4. This photo is a pre-war photo as the pre-war numbers are painted on the towers. The container would have been fitted to U 3 and U 4 at a later date.

Cheers,

Dougie

Hallo Dougie,

it seams that during the WWII the IIA get a gun, at the beginnung the dont have them.
