Title: Kriegsmarine Paints from LifeColor
Post by: GlennCauley on 11 Dec , 2014, 09:22
With the demise of WEM ColourCoats paints  <sigh>  I had thought that we would not be able to get German Kriegsmarine WWII paints any more.

Well... there is some GOOD NEWS.

LifeColor has 2 paint sets for German Kriegsmarine WWII, for surface ships and also U-boats:

Set 1 (surface vessels) has the following 6 colours (22mL bottles):
Set 2 (U-boats) has the following 6 colours (22mL bottles):

Hi Glenn,

I purchased the Uboat Lifecolor Set a few years ago. IMO you have to dilute these colors because of the scale effect otherwise the colors are to dark because they match the original 1:1 scale colors. AFAIK for a 1:72 U boat the rule of thumb is 75% color and 15% thinner (and certainly 100% of a good beer for the airbrush operator).

i have also used the Lifecolor U-Boat colors and they are nice.  I was not aware of the WEM paints being discontinued, any ideas why?  I still have a small stockpile of them, I hope they haven't dried up!

Brian

I'm confused... how will adding more thinner lighten the colours?    Wouldn't you need to add white paint instead, to lighten up the colours?

Hi Glenn,

please follow this link, IMO a very good article about the scale effect. And according to this article you have to add white, sorry for my unprecise words in the post before.

That's a good article, thanks for that. I used to have a bit of freeware for the PC that calculated for you.
