1:1 waterline model of U9

(1/1)

uboatfan:
Hello,

i found a picture of a 1:1 waterline model of U9. Looks very detailed.
The picture was taken on a fair in Berlin 1936.
Look here:

Capt Kremin:
Hi uboatfan,

Call me crazy but is it a model?

Considering the the kriegsmarine moved 6 type IIs including the U9 it is not too much of a stretch that the real thing was put on display at an exhibition. Also if it was a model why would you build it so that it needs that rather awkward look plinth around it?

Regards
Jon

uboatfan:
Hi Jon,

at the first pictures i saw i thought also that this was the real U9.

But at this picture you can see the cut at the water line.
Look at the left hand from the Officer. You see the cut through the pressure hull.

Additional i never read something about a transport of U9 to Berlin 1936/37.
1942 U9 was transfered to Konstanza by a Culemeyer transport. I have a good Book of these Transport.

Regards,
Uboatfan

Capt Kremin:
Hi uboatfan,

The higher angle photos do tend to prove that it is a model, quite a good one.

With all the other grandiose events that the Nazi party carried out prewar it wouldn't have surprised me if it had been real.

regards
Jon

Mr. Bill:
Greetings,

Perhaps this is not a full scale (1:1) display of U-9.  There is the same photo on page 24 of "Wolf Packs" by Time-Life Books with a caption describing the display as a "roughly half-size replica".

Cheers,

Bill
