Hi!

While surfing and looking u-boat pics i found some interesting things... I think some Flak boats was converted from VIIC and it

From U-Boat.net..   (U-441, U-256, U-621 and U-953) was converted from VIIC to Flaks. So U-673 was indeed a VIIC with bridge conversion.
see http://www.angelfire.com/co4/u_673/ (http://www.angelfire.com/co4/u_673/)
If just could remember where i saw an article where was told that some forward platforms converted to stand above legs like U-673 to improve
diving speed. U-441 type forward decks increased diving speed too much. I wish i could find more pics of U-441, U-256, U-621 and U-953.
It might be interesting conversion in 1/72 VIIC.

Hi Anakin, if you have not done so already, have a look at Glann Cauley's build of U-673.  You can find it by googling "Modelling U-673 "Flak Trap".  He is doing some remarkable work.

Hi Anakin

I believe the FuMO box was on the port side and the panzerkerat was on the starboard side.

Hi Anakin, Simon has it right.  I built a late war uboot last year, U228.  The pictures are still up in both the Type VII Section and the Gallery if you are interested.

Ernest

Thanks Ernest.

There are so little pics and info about U-441...  So is it possible that there could be a panzergerat and FuMO on port side? I know the port side panzergerat was positioned
more further to the bow than stb side. And it was also for one person only. I looked your pics from the gallery and they will be a good reference for me and my (might be)
project...

I know that U-Flaks had some kind of ammo containers in the forward platform. U-673 had an ammo closet attached to CT. But i

Hi Anakin

I think it will be nearly impossible to have the FuMO on the starboard side of the boat as the whole control room may have to be invert also. The main drive shaft for the FuMO goes thought the pressure hull, into the control room and into the main diving tank.

Thanks Ernest.

It is getting interesting...  Since all 4 of U-flaks were VIIC boats and commissioned before aug 1942 except U-953 ( com.date 17 Dec 1942) first three of these had slotted deck. Only U-953 was
later built so she could have planked deck. So that could be the choise to build U-Flak from revells viic/41. But... The schnorchel pit and life raft containers in the deck...

Another choice is to try to fit the C/41 CT (modified) to earlier slotted deck...

Anakin.. Nice looking deck..Are those styrene strips you're using for planking? If so, what size are they?

Yes, good question Bill...premade or did you slice out? and if so, how with a clean edge and no curl (or counteract curl?)

Thanks, I wondered what the magic was, I alwasy get curl and have never ban a fan of the poly liq, it either evaporates before you can contact, or blobs! But then I can't do stretched melted sprue either, and yet ahve seen some AMAZING parts made that way...

I guess i have a prototype now...   :P    Somehow i have to spare the original CT parts and remake the decks... BTW the evergreen sheet looks great... Small sanding perhaps and it looks like real wood planking.
