Title: question on kit part
Post by: rabapla on 22 Mar , 2008, 04:44
hello everybody,

what is the largest pin on kit part 94?
Antenna or broom?
Don't laugh, in my rather small gato- related photo library I can't find a similar shaped antenna, just this "clean sweep" broom fixed to a periscope on wahoo.

thanks.

It might be easier for us to help if we could see a picture of the part in question.......at lest it would help me. ???

o.k., I'll try.

I just want to be sure that the long pole on part 94 is an antenna indeed...............

To me it looks to be an antenna but Rokket should be able to give us the oficial answer.

by the way, why do you think they had a broom tied up there? kinda funny.

oh, wahoo tied up a broom up there to "indicate a clean sweep". that's what they write under the picture.

and sometimes the modelling companies make such mistakes: dragon once offered a Mistel-composite of Focke Wulf 190 fighter on top of a Junkers 88 flying bomb. the Fw 190 was to have upward pointing cannons above the motor.
wrong! on a photo dragon mistook the upper part of a ladder for the barrels.

Thats funny and sad at the same time. You would think that the companies would put a little more research into things before they make the dies and start producing. But I geuss takeing the short cuts saves them money.

It's a broom, though not mounted correctly. On Wahoo, and later on other boats, it was normally tied to the periscope, to show the boat had swept the seas of enemy ships (No torpedoes left).
On Cobia they have welded a socket, to mount the broom, on the shears. I have several photos clearly showing it. Email me at << mkeatingss(at)cox.net >> if you want a copies.

As a side note, Periscope Film.com, may soon be releasing a couple of new books. These are; "The Submarine" ( Navpers 10490 - "Basic Enlisted Submarine Text Part 1") and "Standard Submarine Phraseology" (Originally issued by Sublant).
If these prove a popular (good sales), Navpers 16162 - "Submarine Electrical Installations", 16164 - "Submarine Air Systems" and 16166 - "Trim and Drain Systems", could be released at a future date.

Thanks a lot!!

so what to do with part 94? Completely discard it? Except for those who wish to build Cobia as she is now? ???

Doesn't matter for me anyway, going to build an early boat with the enclosed "cockpit". Either IBS or Nautilus.

I was just curious about the broom....... ;D

The quickest and easiest thing would be to just clip the broom off, and replace it with a stub antenna, like on the starboard side.

all hail Mike! Thanks!

yes, that broom might be better replaced with various radar/antenna PE.

Glad that I saw this as this is the area that my son and I are working on. Need to think about this some.
