Hello,

That is quite a photo, quite a shock to see the bow cut off but the rest remaining. I wonder why this was done? It may be due to corrosion and the effects of being outside for many years, but it is unclear why the bow would suffer much more than the rest of the boat.

Presumably the bow was rebuilt with new plating and the replacement was done without adherence to detail. For example the boat presently has no vents around or above the torpedo doors. They mustn't have bothered to cut the vents when replacing the bow plating, either because it wasn't a good replacement job. Or they wanted this area deliberately sealed up to help prevent future corrosion.

Cheers,

Dougie

Hi Gents,

I have brightened the inner front part a little bit hoping to find some more details.

FYI
One of the modern day curators stated on FB that this was cut off to enable work to be done to strengthen due to corrosion.

I wonder what they did with the excess bits Torp tubes etc. Hopefully they didn't  end up as scrap....

You know that Braun coffee maker you bought back in 2004? Yeah, they were in there.
