Interest in 1/72 Type XXI ?
« on: 06 May , 2015, 07:28 »
I contacted Revell of Germany to make the suggestion of a 1/72 Japanese I-400.

They said that likely they would not do one, as their market research revealed it likely would not be popular.   Besides, they much prefer German boats!

They asked me if there would be interest in a 1/72 Type XXI... so I thought I would ask the question here.

Personally, I would like one.

Hello all,

a Type XXI in 1/72 from Revell....

YES!

I also talked with revell several times about this.

(I already have a Type XXI kit from Ota.)

I think it would be a "must have" model...  :)   Wonder when and where to put it  :o   Too many 1/72 boats already waiting to build or to finished...

Hi Gents,

I think its logical if Revell will produce a type-twenty-one in 1/72 scale. Looking at the range of 1/72 boats a XXI will fit perfect to the line up. And finally they close with a "Milchkuh" (milk cow) and we all need more storage room  ;)

Hello gents,

Yes, I would buy a XXI if it were available. As Falo says it is quite logical.

I think Revell should consider resizing their existing IXCs in 144th scale as they would sell I would think.

Given that Trumpeter have released quite a few battleships in 200th scale there must be a market for very large plastic kits. I would like to see Revell release a Type VII in 48th scale (preferably a VIIB). This might seem at first to be a daft suggestion but given that Trumpeter has a 200th scale HMS Nelson (this was rather a surprising release) then really large naval subjects must be possible.

Having said that, if I was working for Revell I'd opt for a 72nd XXI as it is a safer option.

Cheers,

Dougie

I would be thrilled to have a XXI in the lineup!  It only seems natural to have this boat available in the 1/72 scale

I too would love it if Revell woud release a type XXI in 1/72.
I just hope that, once they do, it won't be the post-war 'Wilhelm Bauer' version but a boat from the war period...

Hi all,

Whilst on the subject of submarine models, here are some more voting links:

German Submarine Type XXI 1 :72 Not the same as previously listed

1/72 German U-Boat Submarine Type VII C-41 (re-issue)

German minelaying submarine type XB in 1/144 scale
1/144 German U-boot Crew

From the First World War:

1/72 WW1 German U-boat ‘U-35″

SM U35 German WWI submarine (unknown scale)

S.M. U 1 (Uboat WK I) 1/72

1/72 WW1 German U-boat ‘U-9″

1/72 WW1 German U-boat ‘U-9″ (same boat different listing)

and slightly off topic:

X Craft Submarine (unknown scale - at least 1:72)

Get voting, it can't hurt and may do some good.

Regards
Jon

Thank you for the links, Jon.  :)

I voted for:
  • 1/72 Type XXI
  • 1/144 Type XB   (though I would love to see a 1/72 instead)
I created my own idea for:
  • 1/72 Type XB   (specifically U-234 "Hitler's Last U-boat")... waiting for the idea to be accepted.
For the X-Craft, they really should indicate a scale.
I would not want a 1/72 X-Craft as that is too small for my preference; I did not like the Revell 1/72 Seehund midget sub.
Merit recently released a 1/35 X-Craft which I am getting shortly.   For midget subs, I feel that 1/35 is a great scale.

Hi Glenn,

Totally agree with you on the lack of scale, probably would be 1:35, but equally could be 1:32, 1:48 or 1:72.
There is already a 1:72, (by Pavla) and a 1:35, (by Merit International).
Never seen a XB in any scale, that would be nice and with Mikr Mir releasing their type XVIIB in 1:144 recently the gaps are getting less.
My personal wish would be for a 1:72 type IX(A) with a turm 0.

Here is a graphic that I found that shows size differences between some boats.

Hello,

there are a lot of subs they could bring to the market...

VII A, II D, VII F, IX A, IX D1, IX D2 all the Walter Types and so on...

But let us be realistic: They never will make a sub only for some enthusiasts. They want to sell a lot.
In this case the Type XXI is one of the best choises. Like done with the VII and the IX they can sell variants:
XXI (WWII), Wilhelm Bauer, U-2513 and U-3008 (at US-Navy), U 2518 (French "Roland Morillot").

Some years ago there was a private seller of 1/72 scale resin subs. There i saw also a Type XB. Great build but very expensive.

All the other types we had to build by ourself...

...or we find someone who want to start a small series production...

To the scale: I prefer 1/72. Large enought for a lot of details.
At 1/144 you will find a lot of diferent types, but in some cases they are nearer to phantasie than a real scale model.
I started at this scale.
I also "tested" 1/35 but therefor i have not enought space at my home...
