Title: 1/144 Gato
Post by: GlennCauley on 12 Sep , 2016, 08:40
I recently obtained a Trumpeter 1/144 USS Gato  kit.      (I can hear the cries of "Traitor!" already!)

What are good accessories to go with this kit?
I don't know much about the Gato...

(Traitor!...ah-hem...)

Since the Gato was the Cadillac of submarines (OK, not when compared to a XXI, etc., but most boats), I would expect a modeler to embrace it in 1:72! Especially you, mate! There are heaps of good accessories (some from AMP!) for the 1:72.  ;D

Gatos (and the later Balao and Tench versions) had the BEST Torpedo Data Computer (could handle tracking as well as basic calcs, was better than the Kriegsmarine TDC and waaay better than the IJN), 10 torp tubes (6/4), lots of radar evolution, refrigeration and freezer for food, air con for fighting condensation (electrical circuit priority, not crew, but they enjoyed it too)...the list goes on and on!

OH, you mean exterior model accessories. In 1:144, I don't know of much. Buy a 1:72!  ;D

ROFLMVAO

I actually DID get the 1:72 Gato when it first came out.   I took one look at it, went "meh" and sold it.    Sure it was big, but compared to the U-boats it is BORING looking.  ;)

Ex-SQUEEEEEEZE Me? :o Boring?! OK, the VIIs had a Victorian elegance, but compared to the sleek Gato? FAH-getabowdit! ;D

At least you had one for a short while. [Dramatic SIGH.]

I've tried to uplaod an old article on a 1:178, but it's too large. I know wrong scale, but there might be interesting stuff in there. I'll chop the article down for attaching (hmmm, or I could increase the file size limit!)

Cheers [mumbles.....$%&*#!-ing traitor...]
