Forward torpedo loading well and hatch
« on: 18 Apr , 2017, 00:14 »
Hi everybody,
in Trumpeter's 1/48 U-552 I have the possibility of superdetailing the forward torpedo loading well and hatch, coming in kit, in my opinion, in the wrong shape ( as visible in posted photos ): first of all, the Trumpetr well is too much short, without covering the entire lenght of the deck opening; second thing, it has closed side walls, and I think there were opened for free flooding ( see posted photos of an other model ).
Any photo or drawing regarding the torpedo loadoing well is welcome.

Hi Filippo.

first of all thanks for sharing your experiences with that huge kit.

A few years ago I bought – as a gift for a friend – this set from WEM (please follow the link to a review on Steel-Navy).

http://www.steelnavy.com/WEM72LoadingSet.htm

And as you can see the side walls are opened. The scale of the WEM loading set is 1/72 – of course designed for the Revell VIIC-U-Boat.

Regards
falo

No one help? Should I work by fantasy ?
I already opened all the holes of side walls of well deck, but I'd like to superdetail it, and especiallly to reproduce any manufact visible through the holes...
Help appreciated.
Thanks

Hi everybody, some more questions:
1) was the cradle visible behind the torpedo loading hole a fixed structure, or was removable ? Which was its function ?
2) was the cradle visible in drawing in front of torpedo loading holea fixed structure, or was removable ? Which was its function ?
3) were the hinges visible in photo added after the torpedo loading hatch was closed from inside ? They aren't  visible on hatch's photos...
At least, can someone explain the functioning of the hatch's closing device ?
Thanks in advance for replies.
Filippo

Dear Filippo

i think the cradle behint the torpedo loading hatch are the resting cradle for the external toppedo storage tube .
he was placed closed to this hatch .

Thanks David, if you made your model with the same accuracy I see on the photos of particulars you posted, I think that your U-Boat model would be one of the most beautiful in circulation: you must be proud of it!

Hi David,
I saw your U-96 building report on www.mmodel.de : I'm simply speechless....I never saw something even only comparable with your work: it's a real masterpiece !!!!!! I saved all the photos of your model on my computer, and I'll use them an ( unreachable ) example of perfect result and target for my scratchbuilding efforts....hat off in front of your model !!!!!!!!!
Are you still working on it ?
I'll monitor the site to see any advancement in your work. Respect
