What is this ?

Hi everybody,
is there someone who can explain to me what is the "hole" circled om images below ? Whas that hole so evident as in Trumpeter kit ( first photo posted ) ?

The hull opening for flooding the torpedo compensate tanks is at the port side. So the first image provided by bianco64squalo is correct, and two last images - not.

obviously, as Revell, also Trumpeter made the hole on both sides of the hull....
For me, it will be a real nightmare to decide how to operate with the half transparent part of the hull ( starboard one ): every modification to it ( as closing, opening or modifing holes and other items ) will compromise the transparency of the half plastic hull.
Furthermore, Trumpeter had the brilliant idea to offer the aft part of the hull in a single piece, transparent....and, incredibly, unlike the transparent part of the hull is the starboard one, the transparent part of ther conning tower is the port one.....
A real problem for planning the model buiding....
Opinions welcome.
