Title: Closure of White Ensign Models
Post by: dougie47 on 25 Nov , 2014, 12:22
Hello guys,
Some very bad news to relate to you. White Ensign Models will close for business on Friday 28th November 2014 -
http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=158080 (http://www.shipmodels.info/mws_forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=158080)
This has been confirmed by John so it is happening.
This will be a major loss to ship modelling. In terms of their customer service, product quality, product range and reputation they are/were the best in the business. Hopefully their Colourcoats paints will resurface again as they are an extremely helpful range of paints.
Cheers,
Dougie

Thats a very sad new Dougie. WEM products have always fulfilled my expectations, their small scale PEs unbeatable. Is that confirmed and permanent?

Hi there,
Yeah, I am afraid so, it confirmed and permanent. I believe they are no longer taking orders now.
Hopefully some of the products will come back (especially Colourcoats) but it won't be under the White Ensign name.
Cheers,
Dougie

Are they selling their molds and inventory to another supplier? their web page seems to indicate that they are already closed.

Ok,
It seems that the WEM Colourcoats paint brand, along with the rights to manufacture, have been successfully acquired by a company in Scotland called Sovereign Hobbies.

The WEM resin and photo etch ranges have been successfully acquired by a company called Tom's Modelworks.

Sovereign Hobbies now has a website - it isn't open for business yet, but the colourcoats are listed.

I am not sure if you all know, but WEM its major PE products for the different subs are available still.
The flood hole set and the gato sets can still be bought (ofcourse in my eagerness, I got them all). The new owner provides great service and incredible speedy delivery.
