Bow external casing frames and structure
« on: 08 May , 2017, 03:07 »
Hi eveybody,
buiolding the Trumpeter1 1/48 U-552, I have the possibility and the intention of scratchbuild the whole bow structure, outside and in front of pressure hull; for doing it, I have only the drawings of David Westwood's book ( Anatomy of the ship ), that I post.
Unfortunately, from those drawing, I'm not able to reconstruct the the complex structure of bow external casing: is there someone who had tried, in past, to do that ? Are available some 3D or axonometric drawings ?
I'd like very much to scratchbuild this part of U-Boat, and the 1/48 scale allows a good precision, but I need help from U-Boat's experts....
I post my ( also incomplete ) work in bow section, confined for the moment at the pressure hull.
I hope someone can help me.
Thanks in advance.
Filippo

Hi Filippo,

thanks again for sharing your experiences with the Trumpeter beast   ;)

There was a thread here on AMP from a member named "Topher". His plan was to build a type seven in 1/48 from scratch. But AFAIK he never finished it. I have saved pictures from his posts on my hard disk. Maybe you can search for "Topher" here on AMP and find more pics.

Best regards
falo

FOR ADMINISTRATORS:

Hi, I'd like to contact Thore, but he seems not to be present on Users list: is it possible ?
In past he made some scratching work that will be so much useful for my actual project: is it possible to contact him?
Thanks in advance.
Filippo

Hi Fillipo,

his correct nickname is TopherVIIC but he was never a registered member here, Topher always posted his work as a guest. Please follow that link:

yep, i guess the pics and most of his fabuolus thread are missing because of that loss of data happened some years ago on the forum. He was actually building the boat in the 35th scale! too bad that all those pics and information went missing

Hi SG, hi Filippo,

AFAIK Topher "only" finished the bow section than he stopped his report and never posted again here on AMP. I suppose I have captured then the meaningful pictures of his scratch build thread.

For completeness I have attached three pictures from Tophers thread which I haven't post yesterday.

Regards
falo

@ SG: Sorry for mixing things up here, you are right the scale of the scratch build is 1/35 not 1/48. Thanks for your hint.

'E', I believe are the support beams for the anchor winch.
